Truck Dispatcher Practice Portfolio for 2027
If you plan to demonstrate your dispatcher learning in 2027, save examples of how you reason through a task—not just screenshots of completed lessons. This original practice pack combines a load decision, a broker update and a shift handoff. Every example is fictional and must be labelled simulated practice, not work experience, an official assessment or proof of employment readiness.
Create a privacy-safe practice folder
Use fictional company names and invented load references that cannot be mistaken for real bookings. Never include customer contact details, driver's licence information, account credentials, insurance documents or private student records. Keep an original attempt and a revised attempt so your learning is visible.
Label the folder 'Simulated dispatch practice — prepared for my 2027 learning plan.' Include the actual date you prepared each item and a short note describing the assumptions. A portfolio does not replace assessment results, operating authority or genuine employment experience.
- Artifact title: ____; preparation date: ____; simulated scenario: ____.
- My initial reasoning: ____; correction after review: ____.
- Private details removed: ____; unresolved question: ____.
Artifact 1: explain a load decision
Fictional exercise: a load pays US$2,400, travels 900 loaded miles and requires 100 empty miles to pickup. Total distance is 1,000 miles, so gross revenue per total mile is US$2.40. These are invented practice figures, not current lane rates, take-home income or a currency estimate for course pricing.
The calculation alone is not a booking decision. Note equipment, appointment windows, driver availability, operating costs and information still requiring verification. Do not claim profitability without the carrier's actual costs, or claim available driving hours without verified driver information.
Save both the math and a short explanation: 'I need to verify the pickup window and the driver's availability before deciding. My rate calculation includes the empty miles, but I have not yet calculated net profit.'
Artifact 2: turn a driver message into a factual update
Fictional driver message: 'At the receiver gate at 09:10 local time. Waiting for a dock. No unload start time yet.' A factual broker update is: 'Practice load DEMO-A: driver reports arrival at the receiver gate at 09:10 local time and is waiting for a dock. Unloading has not been confirmed. I will provide the next update after checking with the driver.'
The useful distinction is between reported arrival, checked-in status and completed delivery. Do not add a delivery time, detention entitlement or a promise of payment that has not been verified. If the time zone or source is unclear, ask rather than filling the gap with a guess.
- Reported fact and source: ____; event time and time zone: ____.
- What remains unconfirmed: ____; next check and owner: ____.
- Message recipient in this fictional exercise: ____; revised update: ____.
Artifact 3: leave a usable shift handoff
A handoff should let another person distinguish what happened from what needs attention. Use the same fictional load, and leave unknowns explicit. This is an original editorial worksheet, not a claim that an official handoff assessment or saved template exists inside the course.
| Field | Example record |
|---|---|
| Current status | Driver reports waiting for a receiver dock; unloading unconfirmed |
| Last verified update | 09:10 local arrival reported by driver; record the time zone |
| Next appointment | Not confirmed in this scenario — check booking documents |
| Outstanding document | Signed POD not yet received; do not mark delivered |
| Open question | Has receiver check-in been recorded, and when is the next update due? |
| Next action / owner | Incoming practice dispatcher to check driver status and document response |
| Escalation | Use the carrier's approved process for real operations; none assumed here |
Review the pack before sharing it
Check that every number has units, every event has a source and every unknown remains visible. Can another reader reconstruct your reasoning without guessing? Remove screenshots that expose private information and clearly separate a simulated exercise from real work.
EK's current 36-module, 53-exercise course provides practical learning material. This optional portfolio is a way to organize your own learning; it does not award completion, unlock final exams, issue certificates or promise a job. Use the curriculum to identify the lessons you need to revisit before following the official assessment pathway.
